The company
NDepend is a static analysis tool for .NET developers that offers deep insights into code structure, dependencies, and quality.
Facing significant challenges with a previous Merchant of Record (MoR) and a Payment Service Provider (PSP), founder Patrick Smacchia needed a reliable payment partner that could accelerate NDepend’s global growth.
The challenge
When Patrick’s existing MoR terminated its service because he was based in Mauritius, he was forced to find an alternative solution.
Things didn’t improve after migrating to another payment service, where the payout terms were increased to 60 days, threatening sustainable cash flow.
To maintain operations, Patrick resorted to using a PSP as a stopgap measure.
Built for consumers rather than businesses, this solution felt “cheap” and unprofessional, raising concerns about the customer experience and scalability of his payment infrastructure.
The solution
Patrick had researched Paddle prior to engaging with the team, and was impressed by its SaaS credentials, fair pricing and sweeping suite of payment products.
Paddle’s vast localization tools, supporting payments in all major regions, addressed Patrick’s core requirement for a solution that would work seamlessly across the US, Europe, India, South Africa, and Australia.
Paddle’s REST API gave Patrick the ability to securely send and receive custom cart data, crucial for his non-uniform cart structure involving multiple licenses, renewals, discounts, and complex descriptions.
The ability to integrate with Paddle while retaining flexibility and control over his internal systems also aligned perfectly with his operational preferences.
This, paired with Paddle’s intuitive checkout interface and post-purchase support to update invoices, convinced Patrick that Paddle was his best next move.
We urgently switched our online sales to Paddle due to significant issues with our previous payment providers.

The results
No longer burdened by platform limitations or slow payouts, Patrick now has a payment solution that supports unchained growth.
Sales tax compliant in 53 new countries
With Paddle, NDepend has expanded freely into 53 new territories without having to worry about the operational burden of managing sales tax compliance in-house.

A flawless customer experience
Moving away from the PSP and back to Paddle’s MoR solution has improved NDepend’s customer experience and credibility too.
His former PSPs consumer-focused interface felt unprofessional for B2B transactions, while Paddle’s seamless checkout, VAT-handling, and flexible cart structure provides a polished user-experience.
Faster payouts and time back for the NDepend team
By offloading billing support, failed payments, and invoice modifications to Paddle, Patrick no longer has to act as a middleman for customer issues.
This frees him to focus on product development and business expansion while Paddle’s API ensures a seamless, automated payment flow.
Saying goodbye to 60 day payouts, Patrick is now enjoying the structured, predictable payouts that come with Paddle.
The online sales experience is flawless, we get zero complaints from our customers, we can sell in the currencies we need, and the Paddle seller web dashboard is both modern and comprehensive.

Our only regret? Not making the switch sooner...
Not all online payment providers are created equal.
