How Cindori grew revenue 3x on Black Friday

Cindori saw a large, direct 3x increase in revenue on Black Friday whilst the rest of the week, from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday, remained fairly stable. We analyze how they went about it and the marketing techniques they used.

We recently published our guide to Black Friday discounts, based on all the software sales we’ve processed over the years. But whilst data is great, we also want to bring this to life with some practical examples: over the next few weeks we’ll be adding real life stories of what software businesses did for Black Friday - and the results they got out of it.

Cindori saw a large, direct 3x increase in revenue on Black Friday whilst the rest of the week, from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday, remained fairly stable.

What did Cindori do during their Black Friday campaign?

They sent a newsletter, with several key points:

  • Simplicity: all apps are discounted, by the same amount
  • Clarity: you can see at a glance the products, the initial price, the discounted price, the discount percentage and the reason why there’s a discount - a great use of space, without any useless information; however it requires knowledge of what these apps actually do
  • Appeal: since the apps have a low price point (between $9.99 and $19.99), a 10% or 20% discount would likely not look significant enough to take action immediately - whereas 50% feels generous and is much more likely to be perceived as a great deal, not to be missed!

Cindori's Black Friday email campaign

Cindori also promoted a very similar offer on Twitter, on both Black Friday and Cyber Monday:

Interestingly, despite a fairly similar promotion on both Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the former was 3x more successful since customers were looking for deals predominently on the actual Black Friday.
