Still time to paddle the Gauley!

For anyone who didn’t get enough whitewater rafting action during the summer months, there’s still a couple weeks left for the famous autumn runs of West Virginia’s Gauley River, when scheduled releases from the Summersville Dam come pounding down the Upper and Lower Gauley.

Mixing fall colors with Class V action like Sweets Falls and Pillow Rock has been a rafting tradition since 1983, when the first Gauley Fest took place to celebrate the derailing of a planned hydroelectric project. The 3-day event, which this year took place Sept 21-23rd, is now a major fundraiser for American Rivers.
